INFP

Good times. :)
INFP in the box.
As you probably notice I'm totally unprepared for these vids
and just talk on the subject and whatever enters my mind.
I like to be a bit spontaneous, feels easier that way.

INFP real person example Kurt Cobain.

The ESTP is a wrap.
Got a bit over to the topic of intertype conflicts in this one.

ISTP

Next vid is a wrap.
I realized in this one that I've not given any good example of a person
that could exemplify the types.
So from now on I will try to mention a good example of  the type.
For the ISTP type I have a great example.

ISTP real person example Snoop Dogg

I will go back and add in text good examples for the other types.

ENFJ

Yes finished the ENFJ.
Now I'm so tired I just want to go to sleep.
Had to contain a few yawns there, anyone perceptive should catch them.
So enjoy! I liked my whole sword polishing thing.

ESFJ

Okay some rambling on the ESFJ.
I find it funny how this has sort of become a race for me to complete the set.
Just talk about this topic until everything is finished and then move on.
I actually don't care so much about my audience.
Like if they are here I can't really imagine that they come for my sweetness and style.
I talk about this topic and if it interests them they are welcome to listen.

ISFJ

Next video is about the ISFJ.
Notice the nice striking background, making sure any ISFJ watching would cringe.
Still I imaging my audience to be of a different crowd anyway so I don't care about
making the vid pleasing to the eye.
It is about the information dammit. xD

INTP

Since I'm quite happy about the way my last vids panned out,
I'm going to start a new series talking about the different types.

I will use the Myers Briggs labels as they are so videly known and accepted.

I will explore this form a perspective of having two sets of polarities to balance.

The first type is INTP enjoy! :)

Stereotypes

I've been thinking about doing a video for each Myers Briggs type.
But first I need to get this topic off my chest.
The rampant use of stereotypes, and how it is just a manifestation of type dynamics.

Whatever you do someone will have something negative to say about it.
You will not measure up to their perspective of reality.
The reason is that their view of you will paint you in a stereotypical light.
And they will hone in on and exagerrate or even twist aspects of you they don't like.

So the solution is to be aware of them from the start and catch yourself doing it.
I do it too. I had to do this twice cause I was being too onesided in the first vid.

So here it is the savation of mankind... or something. xD

Introverted thinking

So there done! =D
All 8 are in place.

This last one is about the subjective version of thinking.

Here you go.

Extroverted thinking

Now this is going real well.
I think I will get done tonight with all of these.

So here is the extroverted thinking installment.

Here is the evidence I did it. :p

Introverted feeling

Another one in the box. :)
Introverted feeling this time. How to view the world trough subjective values.
This is my main perspective so I have quite strong views on it.

Here you go!

Extroverted feeling

Ok got the extroverted feeling piece in place.

Feeling or rather values on an objective level.
How does that work?

Well here I'll tell you. ;)

Introverted intuition

My next vid is ready! Quite a productive day. :)
Now this is about introverted intuition.
This is the subjective version of the whole tracking scheme.

Here it is!

Extroverted intuition

Now I'm moving over to the intuitive realm.
How we track and make sense of the patterns around us.

The first video is about the extroverted version of the intuitive perspectives.
It is objective so it treats it as patterns.

On to the vid.

Introverted sensation

Ok my next video is ready.
This one is about introverted sensation.

It has the opposite stance in the sensation realm, namely a retreating impulse.
Making it subjective and highly selective.

Anyway lets go on to the video. :)

fredag 20. desember 2013

Extroverted sensing

I've decided to continue down the path of directions of orientation and focus in
on each one of them with it's own video.

The first one will be about extroverted sensing or Se.
It is both on a sensation level and an objective level.

Polarities

So today I've made my first blog video.
Kinda excited about it, and yeah I know it doesn't show in the vid.
Damn dominant Introverted feeling hiding it all. xD

Todays topic is the polarities of attention.
I talk about how the functions isn't really there, but just abstract ideas of logic.
The reality of the functions are more like where you choose to direct your attention.

I use MBTI terminology when refering to types and refer to cognitive function names
when I talk about direcion of attention.

Here are the polarities listed out.

Se  <--> Ni (Extroverted sensing vs intoverted intuition)
Ne <--> Si (Extroverted intuition vs intoverted sensing)
Fe <--> Ti  (Extroverted feeling vs introverted thinking)
Te <--> Fi  (Extroverted thinking vs introverted feeling)

Now for some people this will be very advanced and for others too simple.
If it is too advanced I recommend you go on youtube and look for something more basic,
there are tons of vids that cover this topic.
If it is too simple, well you are probably used to it anyway. :p

So without further ramblings here is the vid.

New vs old content

The drive to discover new content vs deepening already excisting content.

So lets say that I have some topic like psychology.
And say one day you stumble across some content that falls in under it.
Now it is great content and you feel it really helped you.
Now some more content comes along, and even more.
In fact the stream is endless. And it all seems so great.
But let me tell you something.
On much of what we encounter of content we are really wasting our time.

Why is that you say? Becaue if you don't isolate some content and explore it in depth
all you are doing is jumping shallowly from subject to subject.
Now some people manage to take something from it, and all power to them.
But for most it becomes a mindless assimilation of pieces.
Pieces they don't really understand good enough to do anything meaningful with.

So the next time some piece of content comes along.
Really ask yourself if this is really the best use of your time.
Or is it some other piece of already visited content that you would benefit revisiting instead.
To master something you got to revisit over and over and over.
To peal away deeper layers of understandng in that one area taking a dive into the sea.
Instead of jumping into the childrens pool of the new content.
Sometimes new content is your friend sometimes a time-thief.
Can you tell the difference?

Stop feeding anger energy

Whatever you feed energy grows.
Sometimes when annoying things happen you start to think about it a lot.
And the more you think about it the more annoying it becomes and the more energy it takes.

So what you got to do is right at the beginning as soon as possible,
catch yourself feeding that annoyance energy.
Just notice and say, gee I got other things to do.
I'll just ignore you. Sometimes you need to take some actions.
Sometime you got to think about it a bit to make sure you are on top of things.
But generally most annoyances do not need rethinking for the one hundred time.
Think about it once, if you need twice or thrice it better be a hard logic question.

If all you are doing is saying.

X did this and I did this.
God I hates X's guts for being so Y.

Well then it is time to ignore it.
You know your conclution, stick with it and pay attention to other issues,
that actually deserve your attention.

Two valuable ideas

Yeah so I stopped for a while.
Had to find firm footing before I continued.

Two very valuable ideas have entered my mind, each alone was not enough.
But together they really work wonders.

The first is a rather odd statment. It is called a double negative.

"There is no reason, to not be happy."

So what happened there? Well you kinda throw your brain for a little loop.
Positive affirmations don't work.

"Just be happy!"

Now somehow it just doesn't cut it, it becomes too simple for us.
Simple is boring, childish and all sort of other things so we just ignore it conciously.
If we say however say

"Do not be sad!"

Now we are talking, a negative, a bit more complex.
We have to interpret it. And our councious are with it.
But the unconcious don't understand negatives, so all it hears is

"Do be sad!"

But when we say a double negative someting magical happens.
It is doubly as interesting for the concious, a real riddle.
And when the unconcious are done editing out the negatives the message is clear.

"Be happy!"

The second thing that was valuable for me was something completely different.
Imagine that you have all these pissed off reasons to do stuff.
You are real angry and that is what drives you.
Suddenly the anger is dissipated. What do you do?
Well you lounge around all day, play games eat candy and smile.
So having an insta happy mechanism, if you could call it that,
you need something to counter balance it.

I found it in this site, the Done manifesto.
http://www.brepettis.com/blog/2009/3/3/the-cult-of-done-manifesto.html
A very result oriented mindset that just assumes that everything is sentered around doing stuff.
Works very well when you have deleted or at least severely weakened all motivation
based on anger.

So yeah that is where I'm at right now.
I have gotten up to speed on several other areas in my life and see no reason why this
blog won't see lots of activity because of this mindset.
Even if it is only the ghost of done. :p

Abundance vs scarcity

Okay sitting here and the only thing that I can think of is the abundance issue.
So well lets jump right into it.

Abundance is having access to more than you need and it's opposite is scarcity.
Now the problem with this for the human experience is that when we
experience scarcity all our worst sides will show themself.
Human beings have done stuff under scarcity that couldn't even be imagined
from a frame of having enough.

You can have scarcity on many levels. In any area that you can experience gain or loss.
Some have it over money, some over food and others over say friendships.

The trouble with scarcity is that in addition to being an observable fact,
it can also stay as a mindset, even when there in fact is no reason for it.
The same goes for abundance at least up to a certain point.
It is hard to decieve yourself that there is plenty when there is zero supply.

When scarcity has become a mindset, you will start to decieve yourself that there is a lack.
You will start to try to pull others into this deception.
Cause they coming from a place of abundance is a threat to the scarcity mindset.
After a while you will see that people who have scarcity mindsets will shun
people who have abundance mindsets on that level.
People with an abundance of money will recieve a lot of hate.
Ever heard the term "hater"? This is a person who has a scarcity mindset
attacking someone with an abundance mindset.
The response from the person with the abundance mindset is "Haters gonna hate!"
They see people being negative, but can't understand it cause to them there is enough for everybody.

Now we have all been there, and we all probably have at least one area where we
have a scarcity mindset. It might be scarce for real, but in modern society it is
trending more and more towards it just being you being in a bubble of denial.
The challenge is to break out of it and towards abundance.
Even if there is a real scarcity a person of an abundance mindset will just set to the task
of creating abundance. Whatever technology or change needs to happen.
A scarcity mindset just gives up and says that this is how it is.
There isn't enough to go around for everyone and we should just accept it.

So they sink down into all the base traits that are awakened when you view the world this way.
Wanting to take from others, hurt others over what they feel they lack.
War, poverty and crime is all manifestations of such a mindset most of the time.

We are becoming a lot of people on this planet.
This fact alone can be viewed as a strenght or as just more competition for a dvindling supply.
Is this really true?
Look up one moment at the stars. There is an infinite universe of possibilites.
Technologies beyond what you can imagine is being developed.
We have all the tools we need to create paradise for everyone,
but our pasts encounters with scarcity holds us back.

I'm no different. I too have many scarcity mindsets, some are harder than others.
Then again in some areas I experience abundance and I'm baffled when others view it as scarce.
The only way to get out of such a bubble is to look at the facts.
And if the facts tell you that abundance is possible, well you got to break out of the bubble.
We need to let ourself be satisfied or else we might kill each other off in an illusion of starvation.
Paradise is so close, but so many choose to pretend that it is hell and try to create that hell around them.
We need to wake them up to the possibility of abundance or else they will drag everyone down into
scarcity with them. Nuclear war is one such way of global misinformed destruction for the sake of
taking the other guy before he takes your stuff.
Imagine all the wonders we could achive if the resources wasted on the worlds combined millitaries was used on creating abundance for all. No need to fight over anything.
Everyone gets all their needs met. Such is the utopia.
The ammount of resources isn't the utopia, we have the means by far.
It is all about our mind and the mindsets that we hold collectively as a human race.
Some people are tied into the collective on one level and others on another.
Some are free on one level and another on some other level.

From what I know about psychology the utopia is really a psychological one.
How to get 7 billion people to stop believing that there isn't enough.
Each and every one of them have beliefs.
The internet connects more and more of them, but just connectivity isn't enough.
It accelerates the process of belief swapping, but that can go both ways.
If we want our future to be bright we need to embrace abundance everything else is just
a brutal dystopia. It is really up to us to enlighten each others out of the scarity of the past.

I want to end with this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BltRufe5kkI

Collective vs individual

I have so much on my mind today.
So I will just continue.

Now it is back on the Jungian trail. I know I said that I wanted to talk about abundance.
But I will wait a little bit with it. Feel I need to work more on that.

Now Jung pitted many opposites up against each other.
Some are known by most, some are not really in the scope of conciousness.

Now the real crux of the matter is always the clash of the collective vs the individual.
Now this happens on a lot of levels.
All the cognitive functions of Jung are a representation of such collective or individual stances.

I touched upon unity vs seperateness, that is the neverevding theme her.
But as I said on one level you might side with the collective on another level with individualism.

Take science. It is a very collective thing isn't it?
The collective representation of human knowledge.
as
Culture is the collective representation of a societies values.
as
Religion is the collective representation of peoples beliefs.
as
Objective sensuality* is the collective representation of sense impressions.

*This can be debated as a collective object, but I do belive that
the perception of reality as a sensation object needs to be recognized
as a collective force.

Now science uses empiricism, culture uses norms, religion uses morals
and objective sensation uses unsensoured sensations.

How is it used? It is used to make the individual follow suit.
And for each of these there excist a marked individual force,
with a clear distaste of the collective nature of each of these.

That is where a lot of our conflict stem from in our society.
Not all mind you, there are other forces as work too.

Society goes trough stages of acceptance or rejection of each of these forces.
This is easy to observe when you move from contry to contry and watch
how different societies have different levels of expression on what is okay or not okay
to embrace as an individual and as a collective.

Jung stated that there are 4 functions and they either embrace the object in
an extroverted manner or they reject it in an introverted manner.

Hence we have
Te = collective knowledge.
Fe = collective values.
Ne = collective icons/symbols
Se = collective sensuality

Oops forgot the introverted ones... XD

Ti = individual knowledge
Fi = individual values
Ni = individual icons/symbols
Si = individual sensuality

If this confuses you please refer here.
http://www.cognitiveprocesses.com/

I know I've dumped a load on you today.
Especially if you aren't too familiar with Jungs types.
Hopefully it will be understandable enough. ;)

Enneagram intro

So my last post was really all about being angry.
Feeling that anger was pent up due to niceness and no true expression of what I felt.
Just to give people some perspective where I'm comming from.

Actually this might be a good idea to touch upon this thing called The Enneagram of Personality.
It is a system of personality typing just like jungs types.
It has nine core types represented by numbers, but when you get into it you discover
that those types have many many subtypes.

The specifics are here:
http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/

Now since I was on about anger I will only talk about the anger types in this post.

That is type 8, 9 and 1.
I myself is a 9.

Now these three types can be thought of as a range.
When you are angry you have to make a choice on where to direct that energy.
You can either direct it into the outer world or into you inner world.
Type 8 has gotten cronically used to directing it outwards.
Type 1 has gotten cronically used to directing it inwards.

So where does that leave 9?
Undecided...
9 struggle with the choice, they don't want to attack the world,
but they don't want to attack themself either.
So they deny their anger and zone out and distract themself from it.
In the end it comes back to bite them in the ass.

So as a 9 it is easy to want a perpetual ceasefire.
Where one pretend that everything is fine and dandy when in fact it is not.
Admitting that anger not only to oneself, but actually to other people involved,
can be very liberating, as long as it is done after the fact and from a frame of this is how I feel.
Nobody has the right to deny you to express how you feel.
As long as that expression isn't an attack, but made to inform people who don't even know
that you have been feeling anger. Cause as a 9 one is very good at camoflaging it.
After all you are deciving yourself.

Nice vs kind

Today I happened to come across the distinction between nice and kind.

Now being nice is what you are to please others.
It is reactive and very self suppressing. It is all about what others want.
When parents tell siblings to be nice it is all about keeping the peace.
It is more like a cease fire, people don't start hugging and sharing during
a cease fire, they prepare for more war after the agreed upon time has expired.

Being kind is a reponse. It is a choice that comes from within.
You can be nice to everyone, but a lot of nice people struggle with being kind.
Cause they are so conflicted inside from all the niceness.
They have nothing to give.
Who do you give too? You give to your allies
To your true friends, not the people who you are nice to, just because they happen
to be nearby and you fear they might attack you if you don't pipe down.

Cause niceness is rooted in fear, kindness is rooted in love.
People will often attack people just because they are nice.
Cause they know it equals fear.
You seldom see people attack others for being genuinely kind.
Cause kindness means that there is no fear.

Bullies always go for the scared people and niceness is a telltale sign of it.
It is like this odor that reaks.
Nice people kid themself to think that their bubble of fear and niceness
is somehow noble. That it is a trait to be cultivated.
Somehow it is supposed to help them.
Well sure having a cease fire might help you, but thing is,
everyone else is preparing for battle during the cease fire.
And people who cultivate niceness kid themself about the nature of the agreement.
They think that the ceasefire is indefinate, and they get shocked when others break it.
And get defeated totally by the enemies that used the chance to get stronger.

Now you can say that it is a sad state of affairs to refer to everyone else who is not
a close friend as an enemy. But when you see how people treat each other in
general in society. Well it is the truth. Most people will take advantage of you
if you let them. They will rob you of everything and throw you in a ditch,
methaphorically speaking. Now todays society have laws.
Rules of engagement, so people can't just do that.
But most people deep down wish they could.

Now there are many reasons for this.
One is called having a scarcity mentality, and that I want to speak about next time.
Because if you believe that you live in a scarce world, you automatically turn cutthroat.
It is in our genes, they say it is either me or him.
What people will get themself to do under extreme conditions of scarcity is kind of crazy.
But we all know it's real.
So don't be a nice person, be a kind person.
Giving your kindness from a position of strenght.

Conflicts of opposites

So I've had a little break in my writing here.
I've been a bit unsure about what to write about.
Today it hit me that I should continue in the Jungian trail a bit longer.
Other trails really needs a bit more work before I present them here.

I've been thinking about how many times we come over conflicts with other people.
Conflicts that seem like they can't be solved.
Or if they are solved someone will be quite unsatisfied.

From what I've experienced so far in my own life with the principles
of Jungian types at the back of my head.
I've come to the acceptance that the conflicts really are unsolvable.
Jung states so himself many times in his book "Psychological types"
that reconciliation has been utterly impossible for anyone who has tried.

Now what kind of conflicts are we talking about?

Take a divide like unity vs seperateness.
There is an innate tension and opposition isn't it?
One party wants to be left alone, the other wants everyone to share and participate.
Now this may be on many levels and in society one may want to share on one level
and participate on another. But we don't really choose into what society we get born.
We arrive somewhere and meet all sorts of expectations.

So we cope with these.
Later we meet others who may have gotten other expectations and what have you.
And now the dance of expectations start up.

Now having earlier mentioned Jungian types, I would like to mention that different types
lean in different directions on how they would go about it.

There are 16 different combinations of Jungian types.
And even though people who fall into those types share some significant similarities,
there is very much variation in how it is expressed.
I'll come back to that later in another post.

Some of the types lean toward a unity way of dealing with the world.
Some of the others lean toward a more separate way of dealing.
BUT since we all are thrown into the great mix we call society,
many people have to compromize their natural inclination.
Hence the conflict I referred to earlier.
Some manage to adapt with ease, others feel stiffled and oppressed,
or isolated and deserted. Depending on what camp you fall into.

The people who manage to adapt usually manage to spin a big illusion around them,
so it seems they are doing what is expected, when in fact they are not.

Now many people will of course object to there even being such an inherent tension
in society, and declare that people who don't fall into their camp
are <insert negative label>. Only proving how invested they are in their own take on it.
When you have two parties heavily invested into opposite views there will be conflict.

Now if there really is this great divide, wouldn't it be really visible?
Yes and it is!
Like take communism and capitalism.
Everything shared and everyone for themself systematized.
Now you will find people of all types arguing for both sides.
But when you talk to these people they don't really have the same idea about what it is about.
And that is why both these systems are inherently unstable.
If everyone in the system where of the same mind it would work great.
But they aren't of the same mind, some people don't understand what they are arguing for.
That the system they are supporting is the manifestation of everything they despise.

Now unity vs seperateness isn't the only divide that are revealed trough Jungian types.
But it is one that is easy to illustrate cause we live it every day in every transaction.

Feel free to leave comments, I would love to hear other peoples views about this.
Even if you disagree and place yourself in some other camp. ;)

Intro Jungian psychology

I want to start this off by focusing on Jungian psychology.
Many may think that Jung is an old relic and useless.
I wish to challenge this.

What Jung was about after all was enpowerment of the patient.
To help the patient come to terms with his own mind.
Jung was very clear that yes he might be wrong on many a thing.
But that is the plight of any pioneer.

What Jung gives us is a set of concepts.
Concepts that gives a person a subjective toolset for exploring
an otherwise unforgiving inner landscape.
It doesn't matter if this is true in any measurable sense,
cause as one soon discovers in psychology,
it is all one qualitative study after another.
Of course there are small islands of quantitative data here and there,
but the ocean of the mind cannot yet be measured in any
significant way.

One of Jungs many contibutions was the notion of psychological types.
The idea that human experience in whole revolve around 4 main functions
thinking, feeling, sensing and intuition.
and that each of these can manifest outwards (extroverted) or inward (introverted).
Giving us 8 main manifestations.

Now I won't go into the hows and whys here as that has been covered in lenght other places. Here for example: http://www.cognitiveprocesses.com/

The brilliance of this is that we can then look at ourself and ask.
How do I approach the world?
What information is at center in my dealings with it?
What energizes me and what drains me?

This sows the roots for a much deeper understanding of ourself and others.

I'll let Jung have the final word.

"This world is empty to him alone who does not
understand how to direct his libido towards objects,
and so render them alive and beautiful for himself,
for Beauty does not indeed lie in things,
but in the feeling that we give to them."

Introduction to my blog

Hi dear reader wherever you are from.
I've decided to make this blog an exploration of  psychology and related subjects.
It is my hope that my deep dives into many a book will somehow be appreaciated by someone.

All I have to give is my perspective.
Sometimes I may say things that offend some and at the same time pleasure others.
That is the human experience, every position has an opposite position.
All we can do is accept the difference and in time we will see that opposites are not separate.

As the yin and yang of everything it balances out in the end,
allthough the waves it makes can be a bit hard to swallow in the moment.
Many of us wish to not have to make too big waves, myself included!
But the realitiy of life is that unless we take action and create waves,
well nothing will happen.
It is my hope that the waves of this will stir someone to take action,
to live life and manifest whatever they have to manifest.

Now I may come off as a wise old fool,
but hey all I'm doing is trying not to judge the outcome. ;)

Some will use what I write for what I myself would judge as good,
and others may use it for what I would judge as bad.
I cannot help this.
It is the risk of making waves, you never know what lie in their ultimate path.

I do hope that the net result of this will be good and beneficial for both myself
and others. So without any more waste of space welcome to my new blog. =D
